Coach Grubesky’s nomination:
Although October was a tough month for the women’s soccer team, one player consistently battled for the entire game in all three of our matches in October. That player is Honestee Coldsmith and I am nominating her for Female Athlete of the Month for October based on her play in the midfield in our three games in October.
Earlier this season, Honestee was able to run with the ball starting from our defending third of the field avoiding several defenders in the midfield and eventually beating the keeper in a game with Trinity Washington University to score her first collegiate goal.
In a subsequent match against a conference opponent, Manor College, after making another long run out of the midfield, Honestee was able to score to give our team a two-goal lead as Manor continued to press to tie the game.
Coach Grubesky stated, “Honestee was our top 2025 recruit and she has shown why by her excellent play in the midfield against all of our opponents this season. She has a great work ethic in our training sessions and in matches. Honestee never stops playing hard whether she is attacking or defending.”
Grubesky continued, “Honestee is very coachable. We have asked her to work on turning away from pressure to switch the point of attack. She works hard to apply what she learns in practice and puts it in to action in a game. She can play as a holding or attacking midfielder which gives us a lot of options to utilize her passing abilities, her movement off the ball to receive passes, and her ability to shield the ball until she can find an open teammate to get the ball forward. She is also not afraid to take defenders on 1 v. 1.”
Assistant Coach Kayla Murren added, “Honestee is a great candidate for Female Athlete of the Month because she pushed through quad pain, was able to hold the ball to find a teammate open for a pass, and battled for every 50-50 ball.”
Coach Grubesky said, “our coaching staff wholeheartedly recommends Honestee Coldsmith for the October Female Student Athlete of the Month recognition.”
Congratulations, Honestee! Go Knights!
