Women's Soccer Team Getting Involved in the Harrisburg Community
For the second time this year, the Central Penn College Women’s Soccer team assisted a group of dedicated volunteers at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in the Allison Hill neighborhood in the City of Harrisburg.
The Central Penn players and coaches helped unload and distribute food at the church food pantry. The food is delivered by the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank and on every Tuesday, volunteers at the church unload the truck and set-up a distribution area that serves about 200 hundred families in the neighborhood around the church.
According to Coach Grubesky, “our team earned the Athletic Department’s Community Service Award for our various activities last year and we hope to go above and beyond this year to set a good example for others to follow. One of our college’s core values is community service, so I have asked our team to participate in a variety of community service projects as we continue to develop a group of servant leaders.”
Grubesky added, “I am pleased with how the girls have bought into helping with community service projects. In fact, after we completed the project at the food pantry last spring, several players have continued to go just about every Tuesday morning to volunteer.”
Coach Grubesky said, “I was asked if our team could come back and help again in the future and I said that we will certainly try to assist as our schedule permits. I am very proud of the work our student athletes are doing in service to others and how well they represent Central Penn College and our Athletics Department.”
